The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
