The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
