The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
