The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do such people not realize that they will be raised up, 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 What could let you know what the Sijjeen is! 8 (It is) a marked Book. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 then they shall enter the Fire of Hell, 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do? 36
