The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
