Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
