The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
