The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 facing one another. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
