Al-Balad

The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful

۞ I swear by this city -- 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
