۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
