The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the Great News 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
