He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
