The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news - 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
