He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
