The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the House inhabited 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
