The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
