He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and purified. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
