Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 Goblets set, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
