Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 "I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you." 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 Saleh said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
