Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable? 2 What do you comprehend by the concrete reality? 3 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. 4 As for Thamood, they were destroyed by the Screamer; 5 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, 6 Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees. 7 Can you see any remnant of them now? 8 And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin. 9 And they disobeyed the Apostle of their Lord, so He punished them with a vehement punishment. 10 Verily We! when the water rose, We bare you upon the traversing ark. 11 That We might make it unto you an admonition, and that it might be retained by the retaining ears. 12 Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, 13 when the earth with all its mountains is lifted up and crushed with a single blow, 14 And so, that which must come to pass will on that day have come to pass; 15 and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 On that day all your secrets will be exposed. 18 Now as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, he will exclaim: "Come you all!" Read this my record! 19 I was sure that the record of my deeds would be shown to me". 20 They will have a pleasant life 21 In a Garden lofty. 22 with clusters of fruit within easy reach. 23 (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days. 24 Then as to him who shall be vouchsafed his book in his left hand, he shall say: Oh! would that I had not been vouchsafed my book. 25 And not known my account! 26 I wish my death had been the decisive one. 27 "Of no profit to me has been my wealth! 28 There hath perished from me my authority. 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 and then roast him in Hell, 31 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. 32 Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 Nor he urged on others the feeding of the poor. 34 Therefor hath he no lover here this day, 35 “Nor any food except the pus discharged from the people of hell.” 36 which none but the sinners eat!" 37
