The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
