The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
