Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 And then they cast lots and he was the one who lost, 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 can lure away from God any 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 And there were those who said, 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
