And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that after you die and become dust and bones you will be brought back to life again? 35 ۞ Begone, begone, with that which ye are promised! 36 There is no life beyond our life in this world: we die and we live [but once,] and we shall never be raised from the dead! 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they belied them, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And certainly We gave Musa the Book that they may follow a right direction. 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
