۞ Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 On couches facing one another; 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
