The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 A written record. 9 Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 No indeed, on that Day they shall be veiled from their Lord. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels). 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss; 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
