Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
