In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O thou folded in garments! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
