The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
