He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
