The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
