The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
