And certainly We gave Musa the Book and We appointed with him his brother Haroun an aider. 35 and We said, 'Go to the people who have cried lies to Our signs'; then We destroyed them utterly. 36 We had drowned the people of Noah when they had accused the apostles of lies, and turned them into an example for men. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wicked. 37 As also 'Ad and Thamud, and the Companions of the Rass, and many a generation between them. 38 And to every one We gave examples and every one did We destroy with utter destruction. 39 And indeed they have visited the township upon which had rained a harmful rain; so were they not seeing it? In fact, they never expected to be raised again. 40 When these people see you, they scoff at you, (saying), "Is this the man whom Allah has sent as His Messenger? 41 Well nigh he had led us astray from our gods if we had not persevered towards them. Presently they shall know, when they behold the torment, who is more astray in respect of path. 42 Have you seen him who takes his low desires for his god? Will you then be a protector over him? 43 Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are not except like livestock. Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their] way. 44
