The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Burning the skins! 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
