The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
