In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
