The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
