The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
