And when Abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship 26 except for the One who has created me and will guide me". 27 And he made it a word to continue in his posterity that they may return. 28 However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger. 29 Yet when the truth had come to them, they said: "This is sorcery. We shall never believe in it." 30 They said, "Why was this Quran not sent down to one of the great men of the two cities?" 31 Are they the distributors of your Lord’s mercy? We have distributed among them their comforts in the life of this world, and gave high status to some over others so that they mock at each other; and the mercy of your Lord is better than all what they hoard. 32 Had it not been that all people would become one community (of unbelievers), We might have given those who disbelieve in Ar-Rahman roofs of silver for their dwellings and (silver) stairs for mounting, 33 And (silver) doors to their houses, and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, 34 And ornaments of gold. Yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world. And the Hereafter with your Lord would have been for those who keep from evil. 35
