Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
