The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Book written 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
