The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
