The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise, and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
