The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
