Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
