The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
