۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
