The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
