The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
