He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
